February 12th, 2018…IMPORTANT MESSAGE…Platinum members that have an IPA.com email account should log in to your internationalpress.com webmail account. Delete any emails that you no longer need, if your account is full of spam, we can simply delete the account for you. If there are some emails you want to keep, just forward them to your private email account. In the coming weeks, all .com email accounts will be deleted.
We have completed our move to our new secure and fast server and are assigning new internationalpress.org email accounts to our Platinum Members that want them. If you would like us to set up an account for you please let us know.
We have sent out messages to many of our current Platinum Members and have already set up new email accounts for them on the new server. Should you have any questions please contact me.
Platinum Members Have Added Benefits
Included with their membership package is their own IPA email account. This is vital to many because it enables them to separate their IPA emails from their other emails and gives them a more convenient and professional way to request media access or simply do IPA business over the internet.
Many companies, shows or events will require members of the press, those that request access to their event, to complete a request form. The form, of course, asks the standard questions, name, media outlet or company name (International Press Assoc.) , the type of media outlet (web or internet should be selected), email address ([email protected]) and other information. They may even ask you to provide a link to three of your published works on our website. This should be available to them when they are directed to your profile on our site, provided you have in fact published some of your work on our site.
As you can imagine, the email address becomes important in gaining that media access and having a Gmail, Yahoo, AOL or other address may not help you in gaining the access, but an IPA email address will. Our independent staff members are in fact similar to full-time staff with one simple difference, you don’t work directly for IPA and you are not being paid. Other than that, you are part of our staff and we depend on our member’s contributions to our sites content to make our site interesting and informative.
So how do you obtain an IPA email account?
If you signed up for our Platinum Membership, it is available and you would have received information on how to obtain one. We recommend you keep your email name as short as you can since our domain name is quite long. If you are a current IPA member with an internationalpress.com account now, we will use your name for your new internationalpress.org account and will set up an email forwarder from the .com account to your new .org email account. If we see that you have not used your .com email account at all, we will assume you are not using it and will not set up an email forwarder for you. Let us know if you need us to do this for you.
Gold and Silver Members do not receive an IPA email account with membership. You may upgrade to the Platinum Level for the remainder of your membership if you like, simply email us for a prorated upgrade cost.
SSL Secure Webmail Accounts
We now offer a secure webmail and SSL account to our Platinum Members. Please use the Secure SSL settings below. Username is your name of course. Some email clients will require the Incoming and Outgoing ports. We will send you your custom settings when we set up your email account and it will look like the screenshot below.
- If it is not working after these steps for the incoming and outgoing servers replace internationalpress.org with challenger.elinuxservers.com then it should work.
- IMAP email access coordinates between the server and your mail application. Messages that have been read/deleted/replied to will show up as such, both on the server and in the mail application.
- POP3 does not coordinate with the server. Messages marked as read/deleted/replied to in the mail application will not show up as such on the server. This means that future mail downloads with POP3 will show all messages as unread. This would be Port:995 in your incoming server settings
- Outgoing mail is sent using SMTP. Port 465
- We recommend using POP3 over SSL/TLS or IMAP over SSL/TLS since they provide increased security for your interactions with the remote mail server.
Using Your Webmail Account
This article will show you how to login to your webmail account and show you a number of options including your choice of three different email programs (Horde, Squirrel Mail, and Roundcube) you can select to view and send your emails. Each one has similar functions but their skins or look is different. Roundcube is especially clean and Mac users will like it because of the similar look at feel they are familiar with using a Mac. You can use all of them if you like or try different ones each time you log in, your mail will appear in each one since that is fed from our main mail server.
The first step to access your email on the web is to go to our webmail URL or link.
Login To Your Webmail Account
Your login is your full email address: [email protected]
Your Password: The one we sent you which you can change once you log in.
You will be logging in using your IPA email address and the password you have chosen for your email account. This password will usually be different then the password you selected for your login to our site, because it has to be a bit more secure. Our system requires the passwords should have upper and lower case letters, numbers and some symbols ([email protected]#$%&+). An example might be: Tu*[email protected] we can generate a secure password if you like and email it to you on the set up of your account.
Once you login you will be presented with the next screen that enables you to select the email program you want to use for this session. The page will look blank in the upper right corner click on “Got It” for this page to show.
You can see that you have other wonderful options available to your web mail account including the ability to Change your Password, set up an email Forwarder, that will enable you to forward a copy of any incoming emails to another email address, Auto Responders, great if you are going on a vacation or simply want to send an Auto Response of any kind, you can Configure your Mail Client directly from this screen and our system will help you set up your email as a POP3 account if you use Outlook, Thunderbird or another client. You can even set up a number of them including filters to catch and eliminate spam. Take some time and click on each of these options and become familiar with them.
For this illustration, we have selected the default mail (red envelope image) as our webmail option. Take a look at all of the options and select the one you want and make the one you like as your Default.
Now go through all the links there and get familiar with the options you have. You can view your incoming mail, create a new email, create new folders to store your emails, search for specific emails or senders and have a convenient place to select some of the other email options you have in your webmail account. It is a good idea to click on the Options tab so you can customize the look and feel of your email screen and make other changes as well.
Take the time to click on each tab and look around and get familiar with Webmail it is one of the best browser email programs available. To return to the main screen again just click on the word “Webmail” on the upper left of your window.
Your IPA email account is limited to the size or number of emails you can store
It is a good idea to download your important emails to your hard drive and especially those that include large image files. Your IPA email account is meant to be used for IPA business, which might be those that you send to obtain media access, request products to review for an article you would like to write, but it is not meant to be a general email account that would enable you to save and store large files. The average email account by default is set up to store 250 MB of data, which is generally enough room for hundreds of emails. If you require additional space, please email us and request it and we will try to accommodate you.
Email Forwarding Service
IPA also offers email forwarding. In your webmail account, you can set up a simple email forwarder and have any incoming IPA email also go to one or more of your other email accounts. This can be a great way to be sure you receive your IPA emails without having to log in to your Webmail to check for them. It will also give you more space to store large amounts of emails or those that include large file attachments, but that depends on the email account you will forward the mail to. Once you have your forwarder set up, you only need to login to your webmail from time to time to clear out all the spam and emails with attachments you no longer need on our mail server. You would, of course, need to use your webmail to send any emails you want to have your IPA return email address.
We hope this short introduction to Webmail will make it easier for you to understand this great feature of your IPA Platinum Membership and hope you will use it whenever you travel or even at home to send and receive any IPA business emails. Remember, we are here to help you, so if you have problems or need further information feel free to contact us by completing our Contact Us form on this blog or emailing our support team.
